Sir Harry Lauder is the kilted gentleman standing in the centre of this photograph. Standing around him are representatives of North Berwick council, including the Provost of the town. The photograph is signed, ‘YOURS SINCERELY, HARRY LAUDER, 1946′.
The popular comedian and singer, Sir Harry Lauder was born in Portobello, near Edinburgh in 1870. He was knighted in 1919 for his work entertaining the troops throughout World War One. He died in 1950 after a lifetime of dedicated work in entertainment.
