Musselburgh Socialist Sunday School banner

The Socialist Sunday School movement taught its own ten commandments. Based on the biblical commandments these included "Remember that all the good things of the earth are produced by labour, whoever enjoys them without working for them is stealing the bread of the workers."

This is a Socialist Sunday School banner used at Musselburgh. It is simple in design bearing the name of the Sunday School and the letters ‘SSS’.

The Socialist Sunday School movement was formed in 1892. They taught children the links between socialism and Christianity. Despite dogged political and religious opposition within twenty years there were around 200 such schools.
