High Street, looking East Taken around the turn of the twentieth century, this view from the top of Church Street affords an excellent view of the oddly shaped shop building on the right at the entrance of the High Street. The terrace of buildings opposite dates from the late nineteenth century, but the pantiled roof suggests that the shop was built earlier. The condition of the road and pavement are poor and the street is crowded with pedestrians and horse-drawn carts, indicating that the age of the motorcar is still to come. |
