Milk crates and 3 male workers

By 1961 Tranent was one of the most modern milk-processing plants in Britain with a nett daily sale of 3,000 gallons of milk. In 1961 a new bottle filling machine was complimented with the purchase of a re-crating machine. Costing £3,500 the machine was able to lift twenty bottles at a time into crates. Increased automation did not jeopardise employment. The 15 female and six male workers continued to work in the Creamery adding to more efficient production.
