New bottle filling machine Many components made up the Tranent Cooperative Society enterprise including market gardens, a pig farm, dairy farm and a creamery. Every effort was made to ensure that milk came fresh from the Society's cows and was delivered direct to the members' doors. The dairy farm was equipped with milking machines and a pasteurising plant. The Society used its own vehicles for distribution. In 1961 automation of the creamery increased when a new British built bottle filling machine was purchased at a cost of £5,000. It produced 9,600 pints of milk per hour making Tranent one of the most modern milk processing plants in Britain. |
